Safety and Health Information Bureau (SHIB) provides a variety of services, such as: Safety Audits, Studies, Evaluation of Infrastructure; Training Programmes; Information DVDs; Publications, etc.
It is now recognised that accidents arising from unsuspected risk can result in not only in injuries to employees and damage to expensive plant, but also can have far reaching effects on the commercial viability of a company.
Everyone who is in a way concerned with occupational safety and health would agree that it is essential to perform “Safety Audits” of a work place in order to detect any dangers, which might be present there and seek recommendations to mitigate these dangers.
Safety Audit is an important useful technique for industrial managements whereby they can obtain a systematic, critical appraisal of the effectiveness of an organisation’s safety programme which is undertaken with a view to suggest improvement and up gradation. Thus, the safety audit is a systematic, critical examination of an industrial operation to identify the potential hazards and levels of risk. In other words, it is a form of risk analysis and evaluation in which a systematic investigation is carried out in order to determine the extent to which the conditions are present and implementation of an effective and efficient safety policy.
SHIB can undertake the following type of safety audits in various occupancies such as, factories, warehouses, malls, hospitals, educational institutions, commercial & residential buildings including high-rise buildings, etc. in Pan India:
The duration of the audits will vary as per the type of audits and size of the occupancies.
Lack of safety awareness along with limited knowledge of potential hazards of chemicals often leads to several dangerous incidence and fatalities in the industry.
The conventional approach of identifying “unsafe act” and “unsafe conditions” and laying down elaborate safety measures has been found to be inadequate to deal with the changing scenario, especially in chemical industry. Various analytical methods and techniques are now used to identify the potential hazards and their control.
Identification of hazard, how it can occur and what would be the consequence would constitute “Hazard Analysis”. In addition to this, when we decide the frequency or probability of the occurrence of the hazard, we have carried out “Risk Analysis”. Further, when we assess, whether the risk is acceptable, it is “Risk Assessment”, and when a decision regarding further action is taken and implemented, the total exercise is “Risk Management”.
Any forward looking organisation shall establish, implement and maintain a procedure(s) for the ongoing hazard identification, risk assessment and determination of necessary controls.
SHIB can undertake the following studies in any occupancy such as factories, warehouses, etc.
The duration of the studies will vary as per the size of the occupancies.
SHIB can evaluate the existing infrastructure of the following areas and recommend the optimum requirements for ensuring the safety, health & environment conditions in any occupancy.
The duration of the evaluation of infrastructure will vary as per the size of the occupancies and nature of parameters to be evaluated.
